In the wake of the Delhi pogrom in 2020, the Miles2Smile organization recognized the dire impact of violence on children and their education while providing relief work in northeast Delhi. Amidst the despair, the Smile Class initiative was born, aiming to provide respite to these children. Tragically, during the violence, these families lost everything, including their children's books and stationery. Despite these challenges, we established the Smile Class in Mustafabad, offering a beacon of hope. Unfortunately, due to the nationwide lockdown imposed in response to COVID-19, our initiative faced delays.
Recognizing that many families affected by the 2020 Delhi pogrom had lost their homes and livelihoods, Shaagird stepped in to sponsor the education of these children. We opened Sunrise Public School in Ghaziabad, implementing our Smile Curriculum, emphasizing integrated and holistic development, extra-curricular activities, languages, and science. Our students gained access to programs tailored to their interests and aspirations.

First Year
Following the Delhi pogrom in 2020, Miles2Smile organization recognized the impact of such violence on children and their education while providing relief work in north-east Delhi. It all began with a small initiative known as the Smile Class, which aimed to provide these children with some respite amidst their despair. During the violence, all the belongings of these families, including their children’s books and stationary, were burnt to ashes. In an effort to provide them with a place of relief, the Smile Class was established in Mustafabad, near the base camp. However, this initiative could not be fully realized at the time due to the country-wide lockdown imposed as a result of COVID-19.
